Projects: Excavate The Plan
A client was preparing to acquire and redevelop a new property. On the 1.38‐acre site, the majority of existing structures and surface parking needed to be demolished and excavated for new construction. ATC was contracted to provide initial due diligence and environmental assessment associated with the planned acquisition and redevelopment of the property.
The environmental assessment activities revealed the presence of heavy metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, and chlorinated solvents in soil and groundwater. ATC prepared a Soil and Groundwater Management Plan for the initial phase of construction activities that described procedures to safely manage and remove the contamination in the soil and groundwater, and measures to be employed during construction to ensure the protection of everyone’s health and safety during and following completion of the redevelopment. The plan also established general specifications for soil excavation, controls for pollution of air and water, and construction quality assurance.
