Water Treatment

Projects: WET Testing

A chemical manufacturer operates a wastewater treatment plant under a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and is required to perform Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) testing. In order to abide by the permit-established Ammonia Compliance Timeline, the facility has requested that ATC conduct a reevaluation of toxicity-based ammonia nitrogen limits.

ATC’s Aquatic Toxicity Laboratory and specialists served to guide the process and develop the study to meet the requirement set by the regulatory agency. ATC’s plan of scope included initiating toxicity testing, preparing a sampling plan, reviewing analysis to assess potential issues related to water quality criteria as set by the regulatory agency, and developing temperature models to predict ammonia toxicity at various temperatures and pH.
